HARPY EAGLE PHOTO TOUR

There is a Harpy eagle nest located in La Serrania de La Macarena, which is a mountain system located in Meta deparment, where The Harpy Eagle Reserve has been stablished to protect the habitat of this magnificent species. It is not close and easy to access but offers great opportunities to watch and photograph the biggest bird of prey of America. This nest is active now and probably it will be up to February - March 2027

ITINERARY

DAY 1 

Arrival Bogota, airport pick up and transfer to Hotel, meeting dinner

DAY2 

The tour starts from Bogota, driving in the  morning towards Villavicencio city, have lunch and then continue another 3 hours drive towards Vista Hermosa village,. Overnight in Hotel in Vista Hermosa

DAY3 

Early morning we will drive a long dirt road on 4x4 vehicle, then we will hike for around 1 – 2 hours into the Harpy Eagle reserve where stay for three nights (our bags will be taken by horses) In the afternoon, we will explore surroundings 

​

DAY4  

Full day photographing the eagle close to the nest, also other possible species of birds and mammals. We will walk in the morning to the nest and spend the whole morning photographing the eagle, then return to lodge and spend the afternoon searching for other species 

​

DAY 5 

Another full day exploring the forest of the eagle searching for great photo opportunities, also exploring close areas for other wildlife photo opportunities, such as monkeys and other bird species 

 

DAY6 

In the morning we will focus on birding around the lodge and then return drive towards Villavicencio city where stay in a nice lodge for the next two nights in order to search for lowlands wildlife. In the afternoon we will do a photo session in feeders of the reserve

DAY7 

During this day we will explore the reserve and the surroundings searching for different species of birds and wildlife, visit roost of Night monkeys, and drive at night searching for nocturnal wildlife 

​

DAY8 

In the morning we will explore trails around the reserve and then start driving towards Bogota, arriving in the afternoon
